Important Notice: The ICSciEnTec2020 has been postponed to February 5th and 6th 2021 due to the current Pandemic subject to improvement in the condition. However, if the Pandemic continues, the Conference will be held online on the same date (Other Components of the Conference will be informed to all authors on a later date).
About The Conference
The Royal Government of Bhutan has placed high priority in science and engineering focusing in construction industry and energy sector emphasizing more towards greener and sustainable way of production. Such priority has enabled the demand to opt for high quality in engineering and research on architecture, construction in all forms, renewable energy sources targeting the hydro power, wind and solar energy sources. To address the need of human resource in renewable sector, the College of Science and Technology has introduced Masters of Engineering in Renewable Energy from January 2018 and planning to start master Programme in construction management in 2020. The College has also established the Center for Renewable and Sustainable Energy and has conducted several Research and Development Projects with relevant National and International stakeholders to enhance the expertise. Further, the College has formed Bhutan IEEE subsection to create an international platform for knowledge sharing and learning.
The chair of the Bhutan IEEE subsection is from the college. Some of the major projects carried out by the college in renewable energy include Modeling and Analysis of Hydropower Plants of Bhutan in collaboration with DGPC, BPC and Rostock University, Germany, Cooperative project with the Lund University, Sweden named CIMCEB (Curriculum Design for Master Programme in Energy Efficient Building Design) in Nepal and Bhutan and implementation of Solar Micro-Grid System (prototype), which is the first of its kind in Bhutan under GEF-Small Grants Program, UNDP. CST also complete Design and Construction of Rigid Pavement in collaboration with Druk Holding & Investments Limited (DHI). College has been successful in collaborating with Asian partners; Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal for executing Research Training Network(RTN) component under the project called South Asia Sub-region Economic Cooperation – Information Highway (SASEC-IH). Under RTN component, the establishment of Research and Training Center (RTC) is a remarkable outcome where rural community has benefited in taking up distance learning courses and obtain training on capacity building. Another collaboration output is the development of Text-To-Speech (TTS) version 1 prototype, where Dzongkha Development Commission and IIIT-Hyderabad were facilitating with data and guidance during the development process. The college has recently been granted financial assistance to build the country’s second Fabrication Laboratory in the college to engage students in designing and prototyping to help local community and entrepreneurs.
To promote research culture and to develop research capacity, the College has been organizing various national and international conferences over the past years. Such conferences have been instrumental in advertising college’s research capacity and possible research collaborations with various agencies and universities across the globe. It is aligned with RUB and college strategic plan that focus on promotion of research culture and building external networking. The 1st International conference on Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development and Design organized (SREDD2017) by the College on April 2017 was a huge success attracting 42% contributors from neighboring and foreign countries.
Besides learning from international researchers, the conference provided an excellent platform for our faculty and students to share their research ideas.
Having witnessed positive and significant impact of such conferences in promoting the research, the college planned to organize the 3rd international Conference (1st Conference on Engineering Science and Technology) from 5th – 6th February 2020. However, due to the COVID19 Pandemic, the conference is rescheduled to 5th -6th February 2021. The date is proposed in an auspicious day and the conference is dedicated to the birth anniversary of His Royal Highness The Druk Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck. The college proposes to organize the conference in College campus to enable more participation from the faculty and the students. The conference also expects to receive more contributions from international participants that would immensely enhance the quality of the outcome significantly.
